Uku-Luminaries

During my early days of Uke-age, these are a few of the people who got me on the pathway to full-fledged Ukedom, by inspiring me to practice longer, learn more and stay motivated during the journey.

James Hill

This brilliant man with a reassuring voice said I could learn basic uke with his “Ready Steady Ukulele” course, for just One Dollar. I believed him. And he was right. I forked out a buck, followed along with this course and realized I had suddenly become a “Uke player”.

I later took the next leap, investing in an intermediate course, which got me up into the middle and higher parts of the neck, made me feel like an accomplished amateur. He is a Uke genius, a brilliant teacher and great player.

Brett McQueen

Having learned enough chords (and quite a few songs) to get me started, I had no idea that half of what we do with a uke, happens with the right hand. Then I found this guy and WOW … was strumming and picking some rudimentary patterns within a few weeks with more to follow. He’s great. Amiable, friendly and very good at pulling you through the fog and into the bright light of picking.

Brett’s “Ukulele Tricks” site offers some fantastic tutorials, advice and information for beginners. Click Here or Click Photo to visit his Channel.

Elise Ecklund

The strange little girl with the strange little voice. I learned my first three or four songs from her tutorials, which were fun to watch, listen to and follow along. She made it seem easy, got me through my first mental block of “Can I Really Do This”.

Here are some of the first of her tutorials that I found (and learned to play). Excellent for beginners.

1. Tutorial on Barre Chords for Ukulele
2. Practice Chord Changes for Beginner
3. Tear in My Heart song and Tutorial
4. This is Gospel by Panic at the Disco Tutorial

Elise is a member of the “Flight Crew” of Flight Music, and has a couple of Signature Ukuleles there. This is where I first learned of Flight Music.
